Unattested verses in the oldest manuscripts

There are some differences between the oldest papyri and manuscripts and later ones. Below are some verses which are actually missing from the oldest known papyri and manuscripts of the New Testament.

Matthew 17:21 (NASB) But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.

Matthew 18:11 (NASB) For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.

Matthew 6:13 (KJV) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Mark 7:16 (NASB) "If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."

Mark 9:44,46 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. (However, the text of verses 44 and 46 are the same as verse 48)

Mark 11:26 (NASB) "But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your transgressions."

Mark 15:28 (NASB) And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And He was numbered with transgressors."

Luke 17:36 (NASB) "Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other will be left."

Luke 23:17 (NASB) Now he was obliged to release to them at the feast one prisoner.

Luke 23:34 (KJV) Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

John 5:3-4 (NASB) ³… waiting for the moving of the waters; ⁴for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted.

Acts 8:37 (KJV) And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Acts 9:6 (KJV) And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

Acts 24:7 (NASB) "But Lysias the commander came along, and with much violence took him out of our hands,

Acts 28:29 (NASB) When he had spoken these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.

Acts 15:34 (KJV) Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.

Romans 16:24 (NASB) The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

1 John 5:7-8 (KJV) ⁷For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. ⁸And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

Unattested verses and the NWT

The NWT claims to follow the oldest manuscripts. This is a completely reasonable principle to follow. This has become standard practise for all modern popular translations. Sometimes the NTW adds the unattested verse in a footnote and in a few places they place it in the main text but format it in a smaller font. These are the passages which the NWT has omitted, presumably because they are not attested in the oldest manuscripts.

In total 240 Greek words were omitted in the NWT because they were not attested by the oldest manuscripts. In longer passages they print unattested verses in a smaller font. However, they have replaced the word Lord and God (κύριος and θεος) with the word Jehovah 237 times without any manuscript evidence whatsoever.
